Behavioral Models in Searchlight is a set of defined criterion on what to hire for in a given role. The simplest way to think about Behavioral Models in Searchlight are that they are the equivalent of a Hiring Scorecard.

Behavioral Models comprise of:

  • Winning Traits, which is a selection of soft skills that you want to hire for

  • Winning Working Styles, which is a selection of preferred working styles you want to hire for

By focusing on these two, you will be 4x more predictive of a candidate’s performance on the job than solely relying on technical skills and knowledge. In fact, LinkedIn reports that 89% of mishires are due to a soft skills mismatch.

Creating a Behavioral Model

There are two primary ways to create a Behavioral Model in Searchlight:

  1. Using Team Analytics by focusing on the Behavioral Traits and Working Styles of high performers

  2. Using one of our Gold Standard Benchmarks that have benchmark data across our 100,000+ data set for 36 job families in both IC and manager roles

Separately, users can continue using our Intake feature to survey the hiring team on what traits to look for; however, we recommend using the two approaches above.

Applying a Behavioral Model to a Job

Step 1: Identify the right Behavioral Model you want to apply to a Job

  • Navigate to "Behavioral Models", where you will be able to select between previously created Behavioral Models or Benchmark Behavioral Models

  • Alternatively, you can go directly to a Job to attach a Behavioral Model

Step 2: Verify the Winning Traits and Winning Working Styles

  • From any Behavioral Model, you will be able to verify whether the identified Winning Traits and Winning Working Styles align with the desired traits and requirements of the role.

  • This profile will have the exact same data insights from where they originated and retain all metadata (e.g., filters, performance groups, etc.).

Step 3: Apply the Behavioral Model to a Job

  • When ready, "Apply to a Job". You will be able to choose an existing job or create a new job here.

Step 4: Once applied to a Job, you can Edit.

  • When ready, "Apply to a Job". You will be able to choose an existing job or create a new job here.

  • Once in a Job, you will be able to "Switch Model" or "Edit" to further refine the Behavioral Model according to the needs of your hiring team.

Behavioral Models were designed to act as guiding beacons by incorporating data-driven insights into hiring. By seamlessly integrating these insights within Searchlight, you can have greater confidence that your teams are hiring the right people for your organization.
